The girls from Wellington had some fun at the Contact TriWoman Series. Blue skys, sunshine and lots of energy made it a great morning for participants and spectators and we had lots of visitors to our pretty pink tent. Thanks to Peter Morgan and the team at Brendon Foot for loaning us the car.

Teen Health Cover

The team at  Pink Insurance has spent some time developing a 'Teen Health Cover' that we are now taking to secondary schools to roll out to their students.  We donate the first two months premium of all students who take cover through us back to the school.  The monthly premium is $35.14 per month for 16 - 18 year olds.  Premiums will start to increase from age 19 up, and cover can be carried through adult life.

What does our Teen Health Cover include?  Key benefits include:
- Major medical cover that includes treatment with non-Pharmac funded drugs (our underwriters ING Life are the only company in NZ to offer this benefit).   To date Herceptin has been the most publicised non-Pharmac funded drug, however there are hundreds of other non-Pharmac funded drugs we pay for a client to be treated with that no other company will cover.
- Trauma cover where a lump sum payment of $150,000 will be paid in the event of a critical medical condition or trauma - such as cancer, meningitis or a major head trauma.  This money can be used for anything the client wishes including alterations to a car or parents home, time off work or a parents lost income while they take care of their sick child, overseas treatment, or even a holiday so they can relax and recover.
- Client membership benefits where we can offer counselling services and access to seminars to help them cope with some of the serious changes of life including finding they have a serious illness, relationship problems, and life problems in general.  Clients are entitled to four free health related sessions to give them the tools to deal with problems that could harm their health.

For students aged under 16 we can offer them cover alongside their parents.  Again we will donate the first two months premium that the family takes back to the school.

Did you know that you can insure your income against Redundancy?

Your greatest asset is your ability to earn an income.  What would happen if you unexpectedly lost your job?  How long could your family survive?

One of our advisers Kim Fischer contributed to a NZ Herald article on July 11 2009 outlining what you can do to help keep your job in these difficult economic times.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/employment/news/article.cfm?c_id=11&objectid=10584665

However we all know that despite your greatest efforts, keeping your job can be completely out of your control.  Did you know you can now insure your income against redundancy through Pink Insurance?

In the event of you being made redundant, redundancy cover give you certainty and security by paying you a monthly sum for up to 6 months while you look for another job.  You can choose the amount you want to protect, so you’ve got control over how much you’re paying.  Contact us for further information.

Do you know what you're covered for?

After watching yet another story of 'when insurance goes bad' on Tuesday June 29 (on Campbell Live), I thought I should let you know that you can get medical insurance that will pay for treatment with non-Pharmac funded drugs if you get sick.

The story was about Raewyn Whitelaw who has cancer, but Southern Cross wouldn't pay for treatment with the non-Pharmac funded drug Rituximab.  Her doctors had advised her that this drug would keep her in remission longer, but her insurance wouldn't cover it.

http://www.3news.co.nz/TVShows/CampbellLive/Drug-not-publicly-funded-so-insurer-refuses-to-pay-out/tabid/817/articleID/110566/cat/84/Default.aspx

Treatment has cost her $4000 every 3 months, and so far she has paid around $35,000 of her own money.

Our medical insurance policy would have covered these costs.  In fact we have recently paid out for a client to be treated with Rituximab.  Herceptin is probably one of the most publicised non-Pharmac funded drugs, and we have always covered clients to be treated with Herceptin, however there are a few hundred other non-Pharmac funded drugs that aren't funded publicly or through any other provider, but are covered through our medical insurance.

Our cover also offers $200,000 cover per operation per life insured, compared to only 80% of the actual cost of the operation that Southern Cross pays.  There are also a number of other benefits our medical policy covers...  our policy product quality is rated as A+ in industry standards... but if you want more information just let me know!

Oh, and if you're not keen to completely change your medical insurance provider, you can opt to take a high excess on our cover ($2,000 or $5,000) to enable you to take advantage of the unique benefits of our policy while having a low monthly premium and retaining cover of your preexisting medical conditions.  Please just contact us if you have any questions!
